AdBlue In your Fuel

All over East Sussex we have found progressively more occurrences of AdBlue contamination where a driver has put AdBlue inside their diesel fuel tank. This is partially due to drivers not knowing the right way to work with it (important: it is not a fuel additive), and to some extent because the filler caps for diesel and AdBlue are frequently directly adjacent to one another on the automobile.

Well, what's the issue with having AdBlue in your diesel vehicle? As the product is mostly deionised water, it's as bad as putting water in your tank. Diesel and water do not mix in the slightest and trying to run a diesel car on water isn't going to work. Also, the urea is particularly corrosive to your fuel system hoses and seals and is susceptible to crystalising, clogging injectors and filters.

If in case you poured AdBlue in the fuel tank remove it as soon as possible. And of course do not start up the motor - not even to maneuver it from the pump. If perhaps you did start the car you may very likely have to have the full fuel system cleaned and fuel filters changed out.

Water contaminated fuel

Water contaminated fuel, whether it is unleaded or diesel, is certainly a significant issue to take care of in a car - particularly in modern day common-rail engines. Having water in your diesel or petrol may well cause idling issues, lumpy running, excessive smoke and, if it is not remedied effectively, potentially blown injectors.
